Mapping result

Woo, late night.. dropped Steve from FC Tuning off at about 00:30 this morning (just after he bought a pizza that filled my car with yummy pizza smell!!) after my mapping and dyno session.

It really is a great experience seeing both street tuning and dyno tuning, I’ll happily admit I need to learn A LOT more about fuel maps, AFR’s, actuator preloads etc. Every car is different, every car needs a slightly different map, so that is why I opted for one of Steve’s Nistune units.

First order of the night was to test the unit, for this Steve had 2 nistunes ready and waiting to plug into my car. First one connected and talked his laptop and even fired up first time. Even more surprising was the first base map was very smooth on idle.

After that was in and hooked up to Steve’s laptop the det cans and wideband where hooked up, and we were off to the dyno. On the way down Steve was fine tuning settings, try different things all the time. The most immediate change was the car felt smoother to drive, more responsive with a totally solid idle.

When we arrived at the dyno another of Steve’s clients was ready and waiting with his Subaru Type R, not only did this thing sound mental but it had the power (and flames!!!) to back it up, coming in at just over 400bhp

Once the scooby run was done it was time for my 13 to go on. Considering I have installed the injectors, intercooler, AFM etc I was pretty worried about how it would hold up. Before doing any power runs Steve first ironed out the flat spots we had on the way up and made sure my AFR was good through the rev range.

I had gone in there hoping for 290-300bhp, I have walked away with a solid 280bhp (284.1 bhp) at first I was a little dissapointed but there are 2 reasons as to why I’m not anymore:

a) Driving it, the car feels so so much quicker, smooth and solid.
b) There is more to come, we are confident I can make/break the 300 mark. The reason we had to stop at 280 was pushing it any further was causing fuelling issues. This is down to either to much preload on the actuator and/or the connections I have used for the AFM and boost controller. Lesson learnt, always solder.

Unfortunately I don’t have the 284.1bhp graph as we couldn’t find it after the session, but it is on vid here :D
