Slimming down!

Joe | 1st November 2008 |

Hey guys!

Today I went around Morf’s for a few hours of tinkering and tweaking my 180sx. We decided to remove the redundant carbon canister from my engine bay. Also once the carbon canister is gone a perfect hole for relocating my Cusco catch tank should open up.

Here is the stock carbon canister in position.

Notice the mess of hoses and grounding kit running above the radiator.

Okay catch tank removed! Now that has tidied up the driver side of the engine bay and it means I can junk that ugly garden hose which ran the width of the engine bay from the rocker cover.

The Cusco catch tank has now found itself a new home! Note quality 14mm Samco now running excess oil from the rocker cover to the catch tank. The new location is nice and neat and declutters the engine bay.

HEEEEEEAAVE!! Morf pulls at a tired old intercooler hose which we then replace with some more 14mm Samco.

This is what we took out!

This was the old engine bay

And this is my new engine bay :D I am delighted as not only have we junked the carbon can and meters of old hoses, but we shortened the vacuum piping considerably.

engine bay looks a lot neater now mate. is the removal of the carbon canister very straightforward?

ive been contemplating on removing it but not entirely sure if it would cause anything. but after some reading, it seems ok as the purpose is to just redirect exhaust gas to be burnt off

Yep removing it is very easy, I might stick up a guide to show you how pretty soon.

I have found no ill effects since removing it and shortening my boost vacuum seems to have the turbo acting slightly more responsive as well :)
